MULTIFORT TV BIG DATE – Irresistibly unique!

09 febbraio 2024

This version of the Multifort TV Big Date in the brand’s emblematic colours is simply irresistible! Inspired by the cult TV-shape created 50 years ago by MIDO, its dynamic and modern design is emphasized by a stunning light-reflecting dial – which reveals a captivating dégradé effect that fades from grey to black – featuring a pronounced horizontal brushed finish, along with its distinctive function:  the BIG DATE at 12 o’clock. Another distinctive feature is the orange rubber strap with embossed detailing, a new variation for a uniquely sporty look. Behind its TV screen, the ever-reliable Calibre 80 marks the time with precision.

Does anyone still remember the very first TVs? Their modestly sized screens were designed with a shape long-since disappeared – an almost square rectangle with rounded corners. MIDO used this shape in 1973, 1980 and 2000 for the design of some of its models. Fifty years after its first appearance, the cult classic TV-shaped case has returned to the brand’s catalogue. Precision, strength and boldness, the Multifort TV Big Date embodies MIDO’s historic watchmaking expertise and pays tribute to its rich heritage. Its magnificent gradient dial, which develops from grey to black, offers perfect legibility thanks to both its hands and indexes coated with white Super-LumiNova®. A MIDO signature feature appears at 12 o’clock: the big date aperture. Already an element of several MIDO models, the famous BIG DATE makes its debut in the Multifort collection. Its formidable, latest-generation automatic movement, the Calibre 80, is equipped with a high-tech balance spring in Nivachron™, which offers outstanding resistance to shocks and magnetic fields. This brilliant flashback represents a successful return for the Multifort collection as it embarks on a decisively more contemporary adventure.

Back to the future…

True to its DNA, MIDO once again plays with shapes down to the smallest details with the Multifort TV Big Date. Forged from robustness of stainless steel, the case features a crown protector on the sides to ward off shocks on this particularly exposed part of the watch. A flat, square satin-finished bezel encloses the hypnotic dial in an intense grey that turns gradually to black at its edges. The famous BIG DATE appears in prime position at 12 o’clock on the two-level dial, which features a horizontal brushed finish from 3 o’clock to 9 o’clock that subtly reflects the light and lends the watch a dynamic quality. At each quarter-hour, the trapezoidal indexes add an extra touch to this combination. White Super-LumiNova® enhances the visibility of the most important round indexes, which emit a blue-green luminescence in the dark. A dot at 12 o’clock on the bezel acts as a reference point and recalls the round indexes, identifying traits of the Multifort Collection. The sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment on both sides and the sparkling diamond-cut and faceted hands, complete the flawless finish of this unique model. A unique finishing touch: its new orange rubber strap with embossed detailing, for a look that will leave no one indifferent!

High-tech mechanics

The transparent case back of the Multifort TV Big Date offers a glimpse of the finely decorated gears of the Calibre 80, featuring an oscillating weight adorned with Côtes de Genève and engraved with the MIDO logo. The model offers a power reserve of up to 80 hours. MIDO has incorporated a balance spring made from Nivachron™, a state-of-the-art material that offers superior resistance to magnetic fields and shocks for outstanding precision. The Multifort TV Big Date is reliable down to the smallest detail, and it can withstand a pressure of up to 10 bar (100 m / 330 ft).

Born from MIDO’s extraordinary heritage, the TV-shaped case returns to the centre stage, in an orange and black variation, for a Multifort TV Big Date as irresistible as it is unique.
